Georgia Board of Regents votes to close 215 degrees, majors they say are no longer active
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents recently voted to terminate 215 degrees and majors throughout the system. “All programs included in the Board’s action were not active and had not admitted students for more than two years”, said Kristina Torres, assistant vice chancellor for leadership communications at USG.
$150M Gift to Fund Stem Cell Research at UC San Diego
Businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford has committed $150 million to the University of California, San Diego, to fund a new stem cell research institute. It is the largest single gift in the university’s history and builds upon a $100 million donation Sanford made in 2013.

Gates Foundation Gives $100M to Transform Colleges
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation plans to give $100 million over the next five years to six nonprofit organizations, or “transformation intermediaries.” The group will be tasked with helping at least 250 higher ed institutions to boost student success and close equity gaps, foundation officials said in a press call Thursday.
