Student survey reveals gaps in core academic advising functions
Just 55 percent of students say they’ve been advised on required coursework for graduation, according to Inside Higher Ed and College Pulse’s survey on students’ experiences with advising and registration. “It’s a core responsibility to teach students about how to navigate the curriculum and our main function, regardless of how many hats we’re going to wear,” says Knibbs, a governing board member of NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising.

IB schools emerge as talk of the town, but are these affordable?
While India pushes for the internationalization of education, IB schools appear to have gained momentum among Indian students seeking foreign education. According to a study ‘Rise of IB Schools in India’, it is safe to assume that about 40 schools are added to the number of international schools every year in India. “Even though this constitutes four percent of the total number of private schools in India, it is a sizable chunk increasing faster than expected,” Dilip K Prasad, associate professor, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and the author of the study, noted.

He took out a student loan in ’77. Today, he’s barely cracked the principal
There are nearly 47,000 people who have been in repayment on their federal student loans for at least 40 years, according to data obtained from the Education Department through a Freedom of Information Act request. About 82 percent of them are in default on their loans, meaning they haven’t made a voluntary payment in at least 270 days. “This is sort of a monumental failure,” said Abby Shafroth, director of the National Consumer Law Center’s Student Loan Borrower Assistance Project. “There are so many relief programs in the student loan system to address some sort of financial distress. But it’s this real patchwork, and borrowers struggle to navigate it. The department itself and its servicers often can’t navigate it either.”
