Adirondack Foundation offers scholarships, and grants for Adirondack students, organizations


The Adirondack Foundation is currently offering an array of scholarship opportunities, including The Plante Scholarship for medical students, a Charles B. Decker Memorial Scholarship Fund opportunity for aspiring and working journalists, and The Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region scholarship for area schools, municipalities, nonprofit, and community organizations. Interested applicants must be accepted to, or currently enrolled in an MD or DO program. Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded annually.


 

Seven WKU Students Offered Critical Language Scholarships


The Critical Language Scholarship Program (CLS), a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Recipients spend eight to ten weeks abroad in intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment designed to promote rapid language gains and cultural proficiency in one of fifteen critical languages.


 

Indian unis plan for African branch campuses


According to Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar chairman of India’s University Grants Commission, the commission was encouraging institutions to set up campuses abroad, identifying African countries, the Gulf region, and Asian countries of Thailand and Vietnam as fertile grounds. “There is huge potential for setting up campuses in African countries. Thailand, Vietnam, and a few Gulf countries, there is immense interest and the opportunities are immense too. It is just that we have not had any enabling regulations so far,” Kumar is quoted saying by The Times of India.


 

QS World Rankings Selects Best Universities to Study Architecture in 2023


QS Ranking just announced the 2023 top universities to study Architecture and the Built Environment. The index rates over 1,400 schools and covers a total of 54 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas, based on five indicators "to effectively reflect their performance, taking into account academic reputation, employer reputation, and faculty research".


In this edition of the 2023 Architecture/ Built Environment category, UCL dethrones MIT, which stayed in the first position for three consecutive years.

Education Department faces calls to rescind outsourcing guidance


Higher education associations, study abroad organizations, colleges and universities, and others are calling on the Department of Education to rescind guidance issued earlier this year that would expand the definition of outside companies that are subject the department’s oversight. ACE urged the department to rescind the letter and use the negotiated rule-making process to make changes to the regulations for third-party servicers.


 

U.S. Companies Denied H-1B Visas Hire Talent Abroad


Updated research shows placing restrictions on H-1B visas backfires and causes U.S. companies to hire more talent from other countries. The study comes at a time when two U.S. senators have reintroduced legislation that, if enacted, would likely result in more jobs leaving the United States. The survey conducted by Envoy Global and Cint found restrictions on H-1B visas and immigration lead to more jobs, workers, and resources being sent outside the United States. According to the survey, “86% of companies hired employees outside the U.S. for roles originally intended to be based inside the country because of visa-related uncertainties.”
