India and Nigeria driving a surge in UK visa grants this year - ICEF Monitor

The UK’s Home Office is reporting a record number of study visas granted for the fiscal year ending June 2022, witnessing a growth of +71% between June 2019 and June 2022. The total number of visas granted to Indian students grew by more than 200% between June 2019 and June 2022.


 

The Western Union Foundation Announces 52 Scholarships for 2022-2023


The Western Union Foundation continues to invest in educational attainment for high-potential, in-need students with nearly $500,000 in scholarship funding this academic year. The foundation announced it will provide scholarships to 52 students studying at 30 universities in nine countries during the 2022-2023 school year.

The number of Indian students opting to study abroad has been consistently high over the years. The trends see an increase of 58% in 2021 as compared to the previous year. Indians get more US student visas than any other country in 2022: US Embassy


In a statement released on Thursday, the US Mission in India has said that it has issued a record-breaking 82,000 student visas to Indians in 2022 to date, with Indian students comprising nearly 20% of all international students studying in the United States. “International student mobility is central to US diplomacy, and nowhere is the contribution of students bigger than in India,” says Don Heflin, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs.

A new report from peer-to-peer platform provider Unibuddy focuses on Gen Z students born between 1996 and 2010 and their approach to higher education – including how they search for colleges and universities. The report concluded - “This is a generation that is crying out for tangible, personal connections and community.”


 

The anxiety of gun violence looms in higher education


While the anxiety of gun violence continues to loom in higher education, Emerson College has come up with active shooter training – ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) with an aim to teach students situational awareness, instructing students to remain aware of their surroundings and learn to recognize threats. However, the training is an important reminder that gun violence is not limited to K-12 campuses.
