Indian students abroad: higher education trends from Australia

According to the latest UNESCO mobility data (2021), the top four global destinations for Indian students are the USA, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Indian students make up the second largest cohort, behind Chinese students, in every destination apart from Canada where Indian student numbers have now surpassed Chinese numbers.


In 2011 there were around 5000 Indian students a year choosing to study for a bachelor's or master's degree in Australia. By 2019 the number was more than 40,000, and with Australian borders re-opening late last year the numbers are continuing to bounce back very strongly.


 

US begins study of possible rules to regulate AI like ChatGPT

The Biden administration said Tuesday it is seeking public comments on potential accountability measures for artificial intelligence (AI) systems as questions loom about its impact on national security and education. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, a Commerce Department agency that advises the White House on telecommunications and information policy, wants input as there is "growing regulatory interest" in an AI "accountability mechanism."

Academically Strong: Future Teachers Awarded $5,000 Scholarships

The UNCW Watson College of Education is one of 24 institutions partnering with the Hattie M. Strong Foundation. Since 1928, the foundation has helped students achieve a college degree in their chosen field of study by providing interest-free loans with flexible repayment terms. In 2009, recognizing the debt loads of recent graduates, the foundation began offering scholarships instead. The partnership allows WCE to offer $5,000 scholarships to outstanding pre-service teachers in their internship semester. Scholarships are awarded to academically strong students who show promise to become outstanding student interns and classroom teachers.


 

What We’re Getting Wrong In Today’s Arguments Over Higher Education

A new poll shows that more than half of Americans think a four-year university degree is "not worth the cost." The poll by the Wall Street Journal and the research group NORC at the University of Chicago found that only 42 percent agreed with this statement: “A four-year college education is worth the cost because people have a better chance to get a good job and earn more income over their lifetime.”
