Certified counselors crucial for overseas education

Rising trend of Bhutanese pursuing overseas education fuels the demand for certified counselors. As more and more Bhutanese go abroad for education, the role of education consultancy and placement firms (ECPFs) has taken center stage, emphasizing the crucial role of certified counselors.

These firms are increasingly recognizing the need for professionals who can provide complete and accurate information to students and parents, enabling them to make well-informed decisions.

According to the ECPF 2021 guideline, it is mandatory for ECPFs to have a committed team, including a certified counselor and an office assistant, dedicated to their respective roles.

Colleges scrutinize race-based financial aid after affirmative action ruling

After the Supreme Court rejected race-based affirmative action in college admissions, some state and university leaders are already asking what that means for scholarships and financial aid aimed at students from underrepresented groups — and some scholars are predicting more legal skirmishes over race and higher education.

In Missouri, Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) announced immediately after the high court’s rulings that he had “put dozens of universities and municipalities across the state on notice to immediately cease any use of illegal, discriminatory race-based policies.”

Five Thompson Health Guild scholarships awarded

The Thompson Health Guild awarded scholarships to five 2023 college-bound seniors at its annual dinner on June 1.

Each $2,000 scholarship went to a recipient majoring in a health-related field who must successfully complete their first college semester with the intent to continue in healthcare.

The Thompson Health Guild is the auxiliary of UR Medicine Thompson Health, fundraising for the nonprofit organization in order to support capital campaigns; purchase medical equipment; and offer programs for hospital patients, nursing home residents, staff members and community members. Presenting the scholarships is one of the Guild’s annual traditions.

ASU Online student encourages others to study abroad, take advantage of all ASU has to offer

Lauren Richards has studied abroad in Antarctica, actively participated in faculty-led research, started a nonprofit organization and received multiple awards during her time at Arizona State University. She has accomplished all of this and more while living in Florida and working toward her College of Global Futures degree online.

Her experiences may seem out of the norm for an online student, but according to Richards, “ASU Online is not a typical online learning experience. The opportunities here are the biggest standout for me — having the opportunity to be involved in research and participate in study abroad experiences was huge,” said Richards. “To be able to go to Antarctica as an online student is not something that you can get from any other school in the world, and I think it says a lot about ASU and ASU Online.”

Americans’ Faith In Higher Education Is Shaken. Leaders Can Create A Turnaround

A new survey confirms what most of us have seen in the last eight years or so: Confidence in higher education is at an all-time low. But there is at least a glimmer of light in the numbers and an opportunity for higher education to show how it will respond.

The details: A June Gallup poll finds only 36% of us have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in higher education. That is a painful 20-point drop from eight years ago.

Should higher education diversity focus on race or economics?

Last month, in a landmark case Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College the Supreme Court effectively abolished affirmative action in college admissions. Race-based consideration in admissions has been illegal in California for decades. Eight other states have also banned race consideration at public universities, but now, it is the law of the entire land. School officials are scrambling to figure out how to assemble diverse classes, as many students of color are faced with new challenges in competing with more affluent, better-connected white students.
