Centre's Collaboration With foreign institutes improves work prospects of Indian nurses abroad

Even though the Indian Nursing Council (INC), under the Ministry of Health,

does not maintain any specific data about the total number or demand for Indian

nursing staff in foreign countries, there is however a huge influx of Indian nurses

heading abroad to work in foreign healthcare centres every year.


Given the craze for working abroad, the Central government has introduced a few

programmes and signed MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with foreign

universities and has taken up various measures to enable more Indian nursing students

to get opportunities abroad.


 

28 Indian students deported from US in the past year: Govt

A total of 28 Indian students have been deported from USA to India in 2023, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan revealed in Lok Sabha on Friday.


“According to information available with the Ministry, 28 Indian students were deported from USA to India in 2023. State-wise data regarding Indian students deported from USA is not available,” he said. The data was revealed in response to questions raised by Pratima Mondal and Prof. Sougata Ray, members of Trinamool Congress.


He also added that the Indian government has expressed concerns to the US authorities regarding such instances and requested them to ensure fairness with regard to the entry of Indian students who hold valid student visas. “Whenever such issues/instances come to the attention of our Embassy/Consulates in the USA, they also provide consular assistance to the Indian students,” he explained.


 

Top scholarships for Indian students planning to study abroad

According to statistics released recently by the Education Ministry, it has indicated a surge in the count of Indian students pursuing higher studies abroad, reaching 750,365, compared to 4,44,553 students in 2021. The Ministry of External Affairs says, there are approximately 1.3 million Indian students studying abroad in various courses for the year 2022.


While the number of students is increasing, the high cost of education abroad poses a big challenge for many students; and in most of the cases, it becomes a deciding factor also.

Colleges Accept Record Number Of Low-Income Students Via QuestBridge

QuestBridge, the national nonprofit that connects low-income youth with dozens of leading colleges and universities, has announced that 2,242 students have been admitted to a college of their choice and will receive a four-year QuestBridge Match Scholarship in this year’s early admissions cycle.


The 2,242 students are the highest number of Match Scholarship Recipients in history for QuestBridge. Compared to last year’s 1,755 early admissions finalists, which was the prior record, it’s a 28% increase.
