Is AI Affecting College Admissions?

As artificial intelligence has become increasingly prevalent, so have discussions about its place in higher education. A growing number of college professors say they're embracing tools like ChatGPT in their classrooms, and many admissions offices are incorporating some form of AI in the decision-making process, a trend that many say will grow in the coming years.

Fifty percent of higher education admissions offices are using AI, according to a September 2023 survey by Intelligent, an online magazine focused on higher education. That number is expected to rise to more than 80% in 2024, according to the survey, which polled nearly 400 education professionals in both K-12 and higher education.

Is Canada still a preferred destination for foreign studies?

According to figures released by the Ministry of External Affairs, there were approximately 1.5 million Indian students pursuing education abroad as of January 2023. Some of the prominent countries preferred by Indian students include the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, and Germany. There are many reasons why students choose to study abroad, and these reasons might vary depending on personal preferences, circumstances, and aspirations.

How international schools catering to South Asians are increasing their Japan presence

Most international schools in Japan are known for catering to wealthy Western expats, Japanese returnees, and children from multiracial or multicultural families. In recent years, though, more international schools have opened to serve non-Japanese Asian communities, drawing more and more students as the populations of such communities rise across the country.

With lower tuition than legacy international schools, these schools are becoming an affordable option for expats of varied nationalities who might stay in Japan for the longer term and Japanese parents looking for accessible international education.

Over the past two decades, the number of students at GIIS has soared — from 60 in 2006 to 1,300 this year — alongside the growth of the Indian community in Japan. As of the end of June, there were 46,262 Indian residents in Japan, double the figure from a decade ago.

Exploring the true price tag of fashion education: A global insight into the costs of fashion schools

Venturing into the world of fashion holds an irresistible allure, especially when setting sights on one of the pivotal hubs in this industry: Paris, New York, Milan, or London. These cities serve as the breeding grounds for the most iconic names in the fashion realm. But what financial investment is required to enter the top fashion schools, where visionary figures like Jimmy Choo, Tom Ford, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld, and Yves Saint Laurent honed their craft? And is the investment worthwhile?

According to the latest rankings from CEOWORLD magazine, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York claimed the top position as the best fashion school globally for 2023. The London College of Fashion (LCF) at the University of the Arts London (UAL) secured the fourth spot in the global rankings, closely followed by Polimoda in Italy. Leading the way in France was ESMOD (Higher School of Fashion Arts and Techniques), which was positioned seventh on the prestigious list.

Hong Kong government asked to enrol more students from mainland China amid falling birth rate

Hong Kong’s Subsidised Primary Schools Council’s new chairman has reached out to the government in a move aimed at helping public institutions in the city survive by enabling them to take in more pupils from mainland China.

Veteran educator So Ping-fai said the city’s shrinking student population was threatening to not only shut down schools but also put teachers’ jobs at risk.

“The high level of pessimism among the principals is unprecedented,” he said. “The government should pay attention as it is not ideal for everyone to live in such a pessimistic state … The bleak, unstable outlook is affecting students and lots of teachers who have families.”

So, who is the principal of Tin Shui Wai Methodist Primary School, is due to retire at the end of the current academic year. The educator with more than 30 years’ experience was elected council chief in November.

Fastest Growth in US International Students in 40 Years

The Open Doors 2023 Report on International Educational Exchange shows that the US hosted more than one million (1,057,188) international students during the 2022/23 academic year, a 12% increase compared to the previous academic year. It is the fastest growth rate in more than 40 years.

Released by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education (IIE), the report provides a critical annual benchmark on the state of international educational exchange and student mobility. International students accounted for 6% of the total US higher education population that year and contributed nearly $38 billion to the US economy, according to the US Department of Commerce.
