The Redpath Museum Is The Oldest Of Its Kind In The World
The Redpath Museum at McGill University is Canada's oldest natural history museum and the oldest of its kind in North America. It was founded in 1882 with a donation from Peter Redpath, a prominent Montreal businessman and philanthropist, and originally housed his personal collection of geological and anthropological specimens.
Today, the museum's collection has expanded to include over two million objects spanning a wide range of fields, including geology, paleontology, zoology, and ethnology. The collection is particularly strong in the areas of minerals, fossils, and First Nations artifacts.
