About the University
Since its founding in 1831, NYU has been an innovator in higher education, reaching out to an emerging middle class, embracing an urban identity and professional focus, and promoting a global vision that informs its 19 schools and colleges.
Today, that trailblazing spirit makes NYU one of the world's most prominent and respected research universities, featuring top-ranked academic programs and accepting fewer than one in eight undergraduates. Anchored in New York City and with degree-granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai as well as 12 study-away sites worldwide, NYU is a leader in global education, with more international students and students studying abroad than any other US university.

Essay Prompts Breakdown
Prompt: NYU was founded on the belief that a student’s identity should not dictate the ability for them to access higher education. That sense of opportunity for all students, of all backgrounds, remains a part of who we are today and a critical part of what makes us a world-class university. Our community embraces diversity, in all its forms, as a cornerstone of the NYU experience.
We would like to better understand how your experiences would help us to shape and grow our diverse community. Please respond in 250 words or less.
This is one of the optional/supplemental essay prompts from NYU. We highly recommend addressing it because it gives you another opportunity to highlight your interest in the university and showcase your personality.
The prompt requires you to highlight what you would bring to the campus if you're admitted. We prompt you to think of "Community!" Brainstorm a list of communities you belong to, how they impact you, what you contribute to them, what you learned from them, and how you applied that learning to other areas of your life.
Here are some questions you can use to frame a better, cohesive thought:
In what ways will you contribute to diversity on campus?
Are there organizations, groups, or programs that will allow you to continue service work or activities you've already done?
Is there an organization you'd want to start?
This prompt is a good opportunity for you to discuss why you could excel at the school and why you are a good fit.
