My college application process was tumultuous. I was a very confused teenager. I needed guidance to understand what I needed to study, which universities were the right fit for me, and how to succeed at college. The entire process was overwhelming, and I tried to connect with multiple counselors for guidance.
But I ran into the same trouble every time: my school counselors were swamped with many applications and could not give me proper time. And no external counselor seemed to fit right. In my research, I discovered two types of external counselors - independent counselors who were exorbitantly priced and focused more on school rankings than my needs and affiliated counselors who had university tie-ups and served in the best interest of those universities.
However, I was lucky. I had four elder brothers who had studied abroad and became my pillars of strength - hoisting the weight of my college applications on themselves. In addition, they hosted countless conversations with me regarding majors, universities, and the application process itself.
