Established in 1959, York University, also known as YorkU is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is Canada's third-largest university, with a student body of approximately 59,000, 7,000 faculty and staff, and over 325,000 alumni worldwide. It has 11 faculties, including the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, Faculty of Science, Lassonde School of Engineering, Schulich School of Business, Osgoode Hall Law School, Glendon College, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, Faculty of Graduate Studies, School of the Arts, Media, Performance, and Design, and 28 research centers.

Las Nubes Project
York University owns a remarkable ecological research and education center in Costa Rica called Las Nubes (The Clouds). Located in the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica, this 320-hectare (790-acre) biological reserve serves as a living laboratory for students, researchers, and environmentalists alike. Las Nubes is renowned for its rich biodiversity, encompassing a range of ecosystems from cloud forests to tropical rainforests.
Space Engineering Program
YorkU is home to Canada’s only Space Engineering program. The program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Established in collaboration with the Lassonde School of Engineering, this cutting-edge program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the challenging field of aerospace engineering.
Largest Psychology Program
YorkU's graduate program in Psychology is one of the largest and most diverse in Canada, with seven different areas of specialization: Brain, Behaviour, and Cognitive Science; Developmental Science; History & Theory; Quantitative Methods; Social & Personality; Clinical; and Clinical-Developmental.
6000 cups of coffee
One of the most popular Canadian coffee shops is Tim Horton’s, which sells donuts as well. York Keele campus alone has five “Timmies”, nicknamed Tim Hortons and about 6000 cups of coffee are sold at York every day.
The Glendon Campus
In the 1950s, York University's Glendon Campus had a humble yet historic beginning when the property was acquired from the University of Toronto (U of T) for the symbolic price of just $1. This landmark deal marked the establishment of York University.
Cold War Origins
York was built in the 1960s during the Cold War, and rumor has it that the university was built so far out from the city center (just outside the blast radius of nuclear weapons at the time) in the event of a nuclear attack on Toronto.
